Yes
I’m in need on a mini tripod for tabletop shooting , that must be able to take about 2kg+

it’ll be my gripped 60D with 17-55 f/2.8 so kt
Comes in about 2.4kg altogether, front heavy.

the first one I bought for the job just broke.

many recommendations on one that won’t break the bank? Not after anything fancy so no need for ball heads etc , just something that will take the weight

debating just springing for the SLR-Zoom version of gorilla pod.

yes some of those in the link are my photos (Thank you for finding the link nandbytes) . If going for one like that I prefer the fluid head against the ball head.
mine with a Nikon D810 and 70-200mm lens 70-200m lens (2.32kg). I don't think you will find better

tripod and head link. had A job find them
Subscribe to https://momanplay.com and the tripod is £23.18

debating just springing for the SLR-Zoom version of gorilla pod.

forget the gorilla pod SLR zoom there not very good i have 2 of them and the one i used to use became unstable because the ball and sockets loosen over time making it a bit useless with a heavy camera
the second one is unused at the moment but i get the feeling it will fail in the same way

the one posted above looks a lot better although i have no experience of it but if i was going to buy a table top tripod today i would go for the moman not the gorilla pod

Mark
I have had the Moman long enough to give it a good workout and i would recommend it, only connection with the company is as a buyer

Another alternative is the indestructible Leica table top tripod, which should have no problems with an SLR and f/2.8 zoom (people have used these with 4x5 cameras). It's very solid, with an unusual asymmetric design that allows you to alter the position of the legs in the horizontal axis, but with no vertical adjustment.

It's often paired with one of Leica's own ball and socket heads, which are equally solid but have no friction control at all - they are either completely locked or the ball rotates freely. The tall head shown in the reviews above is designed to allow a Leica rangefinder (which has the tripod thread at one end of the base plate) to be used in portrait format and still clear the legs. Small and medium length Leica heads are also available, but the tripod uses a standard screw, so you can fit a third party head of your choice. Like most Leica things, they are expensive new, but these tripods are easy to find reasonably priced second hand - Leica has been making them for about 70 years. Red Dot Cameras in London, where I got mine, has a couple in the £50 range (without heads).

Just to add to the above, my picture in the link is 200-600mm which on its own weighs as much as your DSLR+lens ;)

Another alternative is the Novoflex Basic Ball. Probably the oldest piece of photographic kit I own. Not cheap or convenient to use but so versatile I don't care.
Oh, I also own a Moman under a different brand for when weight and size matter but at home the Basic Ball rules.

I built my own for next to nothing. I was using a 600mm at the time but made sure it was capable of supporting an 800mm. I adjust the height by swapping the "leg" bolts.

Thanks for the recs guys, gone out and ordered myself one of the Momans. Sounds like it fits the bill just nicely.

gothgirl Did you get the ball head and/or fluid head or both? let us know what you think of it please when you have tried it out

yep looking forward to your user experience. I will go add mine to the other thread :)

suggest one of these instead of using ball head level. Just ordered one for myself to make life a bit easier

bit awkward to see with camera body over it when levelling up

this way no probs

on the fluid head again no probs the spirit level bubbles can easily be seen. My betting is you will want the fluid head as well later on

Anyone tell me how to keep the legs in place?
It just wants to flatten all the time , how do I tighten the legs ?

you can't "tighten" the legs wide open, but you will have to use quite a bit of effort to even move the tripod so no need to worry.

My Moman (but under another name) arrived yesterday and I have to say I'm very impressed. The only thing I would change is to add an intermediate step in leg height.

Bubble
What a brilliant addition to get. Having the camera level takes only 2 seconds with this bubble in the hotshoe. using the moman one is virtually impossible

Anyone tried one of these? Thinking it might be OK for those odd times I want a tripod but walking A LOT and don't want the weight of my current tripod. Looks a bit more flexible than the desktop ones.

Well I ended up buying one of these to try and I have to say I'm really impressed. Build quality feels good and it is surprisingly sturdy. My only 'gripe' is that the ballhead doesn't have a tension control, just a lock/unlock knob, but you can't expect everything for £35 ;) I just wish I'd not wasted my money on a gorillapod last year now, worst thing I've bought for photography I think.
