I got this book, thought it was great. Each chapter has example files to follow through, I thought it was a really good starting point for HTML and CSS.

A good point to start of is to look through the w3school website, as they are the internet standards when it comes to html, css etc...
http://www.w3schools.com/
That is where i learnt html and css to build my website (www.tyler138.com)
And if you get stuff can always search for stuff on google.
Its a good place to start and maybe buy a book on more advanced stuff when you get the basics.
