Recommended Tripod for Canon 600D

I assume most (if not all) tripods have a universal thread attachment? I am getting a Canon 600D soon and am looking at tripods (an overwhelming task).

Budget is around £50 so I'm not expecting miracles but just something (fairly) lightweight but stability is more important. Height not too much of an issue so long as it's not a 'mini' tripod.

Any suggestions people?

Thanks,
Justin

I managed to pick up a virtually unused Velbon Sherpa 750R off eBay for £50 a few months ago, it's an aluminium tripod so relatively light (not as light as a carbon one) but it is very sturdy as i have used it for various long/multiple exposure night shoots and never had issues

Before this i had super cheap Jessops own brand compact tripod, the difference is immeasurable
