Hi everyone,

I posted before but didn't get the complete answer. Maybe some fresh faces will see this thread. I am looking to buy a reflector. Mostly for fashion, model and portraiture from headshots to full body portraits (including everything in between, naturally :) ) What's a good size for a portable reflector for this type of photography? And what's a good size for an in-studio reflector? (Or will they be the same size?)

And any suggestions on the colors of the reflector? Should I get a 5-in-1 or a 2 colored one?

How do the gold reflectors perform in photos?

I know thats a few questions to answer but I appreciate everyones help and experience in answering all my questions. Thanks. Talk to you all soon.

Personally I love the Lastolite sunfire. It's a stripy reflector with silver and gold stripes (thin ones) It calms down the gold effect while still having a little warmth and the silver really lifts the light at the same time. It also has a handle that means it is a lot easier to position and if you are on your own you can use it one handed to add balance to a shot lit from above or have the model hold it when shooting headshots. Really versatile bit of kit.

As for size, the distance you use it at determines the size of the light beam from them but yes you want a big one! The difficulty with that however is in the handling. All you need is a slight breeze and they turn into a sail and could easily drag off a small child! :)

So go for one that is not too big that you (or your assistant) can't handle it outdoors.

I use a California Sunbounce Pro, which is 6' x 4', so ideal for full length shots too. Though if you're on a budget and want easier portability, get a Lastoilite Sunfire, as Ali recommended. :)

I'm looking for a collapsible reflector. Sorry I forgot to mention that. That's what I have the budget for. Thanks
