REMOTE CONTROL

Just picked up the Digital Photo mag, and as I now have access to a local bird club hide, and we have several different bird visitors to our feeding station at home, I have been looking at remote controls for canon, to fire with a 70/300 lens on a tripod, this months mag as tested the Hahnel HW 433 pro remote, it's advertised in the mag by Premier ink of Leamington Spa at £48:92.......as anyone got any comments on this unit ???:thinking:

I've just done a search to see what it looks like and found that it looks the same as a Phottix Cleon remote I got off Ebay for my D200. I've found mine works very well, so the Hahnel should work same.

Being wireless, it is much better than a tethered remote, but it can also be used that way.

I have had an issue with the CR2 battery in the receiver running out of power when I hadn't used the remote for awhile, but I now keep the battery separate in a small case when not in use (which would have been a good idea anyway).

It has been one of my better purchases, and like I say, the Hahnel looks exactly the same.

I think it worked out cheapper than nearly £50, even with shipping from Hong Kong, though I can't remember exactly how much I paid.

Yeah, same as 'redhed', bought Phottix release from e-bay for my 40D, works perfectly for me, and I'm sure it cost less than £20 includng shipping from HK. Might be worth a look before you splash out £50.

same here, Pottix one
remote at distance, works on a 2s delay or you can set it to rapid fire
also works without batteries as a wired remote

however, you can get a wired canon one for about 20 quid I think
also the 450D has a built in IR receiver. so you can get an IR remote (instead of the RF ones) which is cheap as chips and works well.....unless your setup coveres up the receiever mounted just above the grip

Thanks for your thoughts, made me look further into it, Warehouse doing the Hahnel at £38, 1-3 days delivery, think I will go with this if they are as good as you say they are, hope to go up to the Pentland hills / Falkirk wheel next weekend so may need it..

The trouble with the cheap IR triggers, at least on the 400D is that the sensor is on the front of the camera so its tough to get pictures without you in the frame. Plus the range on my cheapo Jianisi remote is pretty poor, maybe 3 meters at best.

Phoned my order just after 4pm. Friday, Post man knocked me up at 7.50am. Saturday morning with my Hahnel remote and spare battery, well done WAREHOUSE EXPRESS and the ROYAL MAIL

I used it yesterday (Saturday) set it up on a tripod covering our bird feed station in local beauty spot, it fired from sides, front and rear from about 15 yards, been playing again today, firing camera in the garden from out of the house whilst watching motor racing, about 20 yard with patio window closed, it focused and fired every time, not tried it any longer distance yet...just one thing, left the control switch on and in my pocket whilst doing other jobs, must have kept catching it and triggering it off,,,,got endless shots of my fence.:bonk::bonk:
