Hi Peter,
I've got the Nikon ML3 (about £25ish and wire free), but I've also got this : http://www.phottix.com/en/wired-remotes/phottixr-tr-90.html which I use much more... yes, it's 'wired' but it has a timer on it so if you want your exposures longer than 30 seconds it's much better!
Hope this helps

Where on the D90 does the Phottix remote control wire fit to ?.

Wired remotes for the D90 plug into the GPS socket. This confused me when I first got one
I've had no problems with the generic Chinese (eBay: phottix/shoot etc) wired and wireless remotes, but for tripod use I prefer wired, as it means I don't have to mess with the camera settings beforehand, or think the camera has broken after fifteen minutes when the D90 chooses to forget that that I want to use a wireless remote :bonk:
The wired generic timer remotes work just fine too, should you ever want to do timelapse, and they function as a standard wired remote too![]()

if you want a cheap wireless one i have a spare here somewhere that came with my 3rd party grip its just a basic one your more than welcome to have that once i find it
