I will be shortly getting a tripod so would think I will also need a remote shutter release control.
Advice please on which to get for a Nikon D90.

Yup. I have a similar device for my Canon... from eBlag for a tenner. Well worth it and good for time lapse too
 
I use a Yongnuo YN-128 which is wireless same as these ---> E-bay YN-128 which the reciever sits on top in the flash hot shoe & has a range of 100m (not that I would leave my gear that far away to take photo's)...

But the ML-L3 is cheap as chips an will do the job intended (£9.99 on Amazon).. Althou the distance is within a few ft/mtrs... HTH

TBH I'm not sure as I don't have a D90... but have a look at the Phottix website, they list all the options so you can chose the right option. :thumbs:
 
I was interested in the Photix but looking on their website they don't seem to list the D90 in the Nikon section. Anyone know if they do have a D90 fitting, and also where is the best place to get one if they do?
 
7dayshop do a nice wireless flash trigger that doubles as a camera release as well. I use this all the time the camera is on the tripod.


The ML3 is IR and on the D5000 the sensor was on the front, don't know about D90.
 
I've got one of these. Looks and works exactly like the Nikon one and an absolute bargain for less than £2. When the battery finally goes flat you throw it away and buy another. :)

Cant remember off hand the set up of the D90 when I had one - but looking at the images, I would say that it would be under the flap on the left hand side...
 
Thanks for your replies, all food for thought. At the mo I will have to decide between wired and wireless.
Like the look of the wired one listed by Rapscallion.
 
if you want a cheap wireless one i have a spare here somewhere that came with my 3rd party grip its just a basic one your more than welcome to have that once i find it
 
Wired remotes for the D90 plug into the GPS socket. This confused me when I first got one :)

I've had no problems with the generic Chinese (eBay: phottix/shoot etc) wired and wireless remotes, but for tripod use I prefer wired, as it means I don't have to mess with the camera settings beforehand, or think the camera has broken after fifteen minutes when the D90 chooses to forget that that I want to use a wireless remote :bonk:

The wired generic timer remotes work just fine too, should you ever want to do timelapse, and they function as a standard wired remote too :thumbs:
 
I've got both remotes (wired and wireless) I find the wired one far more useful especially for long exposures

The wired remote plugs into the GPS socket on the camera

One of the advantages of the wired remote is that as soon as its plugged in it works whereas for the wireless remote the correct shutter mode as to be selected, this then resets after any inactivity, a small point but annoying in the dark when doing tripod work

i got the 7dayshop remote flash trigger that also works as a camera remote by plugging into the gps socket, works just like a wired one only upto 100 ft?
i prefare this to wired as I cant knock over the tripod when i stupidly move away with wire wrapped round my big feet.:(
