Repair G9 or buy something new

Yes
My kids were using the G9 and have scratched the lens. Tried black marker, etc but it does not solve the scratch issue when shooting towards the sun.

Any idea how much it would be to get the lens replaced?

I can get used G10 for £150-£200. Or a new G12 for a bit over £300. So if it costs too much to repair, I will replace.

I have no need for video.

Many thanks

The think is you will mostprobably pay more for the repair than the camera is worth (the labour will be quite costy) :) And you said you can get a G10 so you should just go for it as for the G9 you can leave it for the kids to play with :)

Might be worth keeping an eye on the Canon refurb eBay store - they recently had some G12s for something crazy like £99 if I've remembered rightly!

I'd skip the G10 though and go to G11 or G12. On the G10 Canon increased the sensor to 14.7MP and it's quite noisy compared to the later models.

2nded. I personally love my G9 and really can't see a good replacement, the G10 as pointed out was 'noiser' and the G11 and G12 bulked up a fair bit with the re-introduction of a rotation rear LCD (which is a complete waste of time personally)
