One of my partner's nieces recently got married over in the US. Lovely wedding by all accounts. You wouldn't know it from the pics though.

The Bride wants to throw them in the bin and keeps bursting into tears. Thankfully Mum decided that rather than do that she'd ask if I could do anything with them.

I now have 3 Cd's of images that I could have taken with a point and shoot except I still would not have chopped the end of the bride's train off in all 7 images in a B&G sequence!

The white balance is appalling, they are all shot on ISO 400, even outside in the Florida sun, they are all f7.1 to f14. Half of blooming State is in focus! They have all been shot at 6MB JPEG and the contrast boosted by +2. No PP at all. There are tables and chairs in the way in some beach shots where they have not bothered to either move the subject or the distracting objects. I've got blown skies, underexposed subjects and some really bad angles. Tilt Without A Thought as one of my trainers taught me. "Stop T***iing about" He'd shout. Thank goodness he did! These are truly awful!

I had a look at the EXIF and I could not believe the camera........1Ds MKII and 24-105mm and a 20D with a 70-200mm.

Really amateur looking pics though, they do look like they have been shot on a P&S. I hate it when someone looks the part with all that gear and so obviously does not have a clue how to use it. :bang:

So now I have to try to rescue what I can from some real C*** work and what makes me mad is the thought of the bride crying at them.

I know I'm not Jeff Ascough but blooming heck!!:bang:

I was shown some wedding shots recently taken by a photographer in The Caribbean. There's loads of beach photographers touting for business it seems out there. They were truly awful and they weren't cheap either!

any chance you can post a few examples???

people sometimes see a good camera and think the tog knows what their doing and unfortunately this isn't always the case.

fingers crossed you can salvage some of them!

Oh dear.

Fair enough if it's a set of portraits and the photographer has all the gear. You're not ruining people's memories then. You're just causing them annoyance.

This is most likely ruined her day. And so this mug can go and buy another camera and fool someone into thinking that because he/she has a lot of money and a lot of camera gear they can take good pictures.

Good luck with these photos mate.
I really hope you do manage to polish this turd.

why not start a seperate thread on here asking for help and post some of the images.

I am sure people here would be more than willing to try and photoshop some of them to make them better.

EDIT: Just posted at the same time as the above so no need with this :D

I am amature and can take a good pic but I leave the wedding stuff to the pros who know what they are doing ....simple as

Oh the poor thing. I hope you can do something with them.

It does go to show you should look at examples of people's work and talk to people who've previously relied on them though, rather than relying on what they tell you or what impression they give! Especially for something so important :(

Thats terrible. I'll never understand when people do it.

I'm no pro, far from it, but I know this, and theres no point in trying to fool me or others around me either.

Why oh why do so many people think they can successfully photograph weddings? It has got to be one of the most stressful jobs known to mankind - if done properly and with due consideration to the clients.

Just goes to prove that a professional is someone who charges for their services but aren't necessarily any good at their profession.

That's awful! Have they got in contact with him to let him know they are not happy with the images at all and have had to send them to another photographer for editing?

Ouch, that's not good.

What sort of wally shoots at ISO 400 when in bright sunlight :cuckoo: It's disgraceful really, if you're a rubbish photographer at least have the honesty to shoot jobs that if above your ability can be redone. Weddings are the last thing such people should be considering.

Good luck fixing the pics in photoshop AliB, not that you'd need luck just your skill but you know what I mean :)

All very sad for the bride, groom and family.
But I have seen it on here. Question, I'Ve bought myself a dslr. How do I get into wedding photography. Years of practice would be my answer. But you will always get chancers.

Doesn't always work though - the tog at my wedding won my folks over with some nice shots in his portfolio, but the ones he took of my wedding were simply awful.

That's a good point and the same thing happened with my wedding. Some photographers may spend a lot of time on images for their portfolio and may even set them up so they are not even taken at weddings. Chances are they would not be able to spend the same time and effort on actual wedding photos.

Seems to be a lot of this lately. Have people developed a sudden aversion to doing a bit of research before hiring someone for a job?

To be fair I think it was all part of a package with the Limo etc. They did not shop about for the individual components of the wedding day like you would in your own country but relied on the company putting the package together.

I'll have a look at their contract and if they are convered by professional indemnity they should really re-shoot it. It really IS that bad, dress chopped off, no ring exchange, bits of furniture in the way.......

and they can always take me to Florida to reshoot it :)

I'm also arranging a letter from a gentleman of my aquaintance ,with more letters after his name than exist on my keyboard, who can offer a real bit of crit on the work. That should be fun!

Sounds like this so called 'pro' is a real tool. Our wedding photos were pretty awful, but from a technical standpoint they weren't all that bad, but my wife was annoyed enough, without going as far as blown hi's, underexposed subjects etc.

Good luck with what will I'm sure be days of PP. Maybe you could post a few FINISHED shots, as technically they aren't his work at all, but something completely different.

hope you can salvage something

a lot of responsibility when doing a wedding, but i guess some people don't care.

perhaps a keen amateur from the family's is a good back up at weddings

i remember seeing something like this on judge judy perhaps if nothing else they could get the money back
and have a studio shoot as some sort of recompense

Will do!

Thanks for all the best wishes folks I'm going to be busy!

Absolutely shocking that people are brazen enough to produce crap work for someone's special day.

There was a programme on ITV once called Britain's Worst.....Weddings and there was a very similar complaint, where the bride and groom were shot with their backs to the camera and some rude remark placed above their heads and a very inappropriate border :(

Hopefully you can salvage some of the photos and made the bride happier.

Good luck

I really feel sorry for the B+G, I would be devastated.

We were married in St Lucia three years ago, used the hotel guest relations as our wedding co-ordinator so put all our trust in them ..... Couldn't have been better. Everything went like a dream, photographer was brilliant.

Went to a wedding in Turkey last year and couldn't believe what a shambles the organisation was, and the co-ordinator trying to cream more profit off the 'very unhappy' couple.

It's all a gamble and there's only so much digging you can do when worrying about the cost too.

Good luck Ali and I hope everything turns out well.
