Replacement for pentax kit lens/superzoom...

I'm considering a replacment for my kit 18-55. I had intended to get a flavour of super wide angle (sigma 10-20 etc) but I same to do ask my landscapes at 18mm+ so think I could kill 2 birds with 1 stoneand get a better all-rounder.

If anyone can recommend a pentax fit (so IS not important) upgrade that would be much appreciated.


And...

Whilst confusing myself looking at my options I saw the 18mm-270mm superzooms and thought I could consolidate my kit 18-55 and sigma 70-300 into a superzoom and have less to carry. Does the image quality of these lenses make this a realistic option?

(budget approx £400 cash plus trade-ins)

Pentax DA 16-45mm f4 and DA 55-300mm.

16-45mm is constant aperture and a nice step up from the kit lens, the 55-300mm is better than the Sigma. Both are pretty light and would be a better combination than something like the 18-250mm. You should just about do those with the funds available.

Agreed. I have seen some very good results from the 16-45 and have the 55-300 myself.

These superzooms tend to be Jack of all trades and therefore masters of none (with the possible exception of the Bigma).
