Reversing Rings

What in gods name are reversing rings, i have heard so much about them, but still cant work out what they do, how they do it, why you would want to do it or what they are. any help? :shrug:

I don't understand, the metal contacts would no longer be touching the camera body.

So everything would work as normal the camera just wouldn't apply to the meta data stats such as focal length and aperture etc?

You focus by manual and moving back and forward It will not have any conection with your camera so Full manual

Because the contacts will not be operational (for obvious reasons) it is best to get an older generation lens with an f/stop ring and yes, you would be shooting full manual with justabout only the light meter working.

This could change from one camera/lens combo to the next but I got a reverse ring off fleebay some time back and use an old standard Pentax 50mm/1.8 on my bodies...mostly 5D.

It gives fairly interesting results but sometimes with a very small central spot in sharp focus and it becomes fairly mushy towards the edges and corners.

Very worth it as a party trick though.
