This seems to be a common issue with the GR3. Although you can, apparently, get a shroud that covers the lens.
 
My guess is that there are more reports discussing it than actually reporting instances of it.
No way I would venture in, but I've never experienced it. :)
 
Looks like an easy one to do, but like you mention, probably not that common.

I love the way he appears to be 'finding his way' as though he hasn't done it (much) before. :)

Yes, but that's how it goes. :)
First G3 I converted to IR took me about 2 1/2 hours, now it takes about 45 minutes.

Usually modern digital cameras are easier than old film cameras, but with all, some are easy and some are a pain,
