Hi all, I am a coach at my rowing club, but i have been asked to take photos of crews racing at events this summer, so there will be events at National Water-sports Centre, Henley and Dorney Lake. I was wondering what people's opinion was when it came to best lenses to use for such events, I have my D700 with 70-200 f/2.8 and will probably have another D700 as a second body, but I need suggestions for lenses, I was thikning a 300 f/2.8. Would be good to hear people's opinions and see any example shots of rowing with different lenses (I know this is a bit of an odd thing to ask, but you never know!)

Many Thanks

Daniel

Best to down to the water well before hand (presumably plenty going on most days) and try out lens(es) to see what you need to get frame filling shots.

I suppose it also depends on how close you can get to the action, is 300mm going to be too long, or too short? As Dougie says, go down to the river, see whats going to work best

a long lens...and another for detail shots of the boats and crew
300 and 28 say
i was on the isles of scilly during the gig races and those sizes were ok
although i have a built in zoom...36 to 12x36
