Yes
I squeezed my 24-70 2.8 into a bag and when I took it out I realised that the rubber on the zoom ring had worked loose.

Any idea how or where I can get it repaired?

Is this a common occurrence?

How old is it?

Easy fix and no need to send it back or anything - same thing has happened to a few of mine on my travels.

Take it all the way off and smear a very thin layer of 'shoe-goo' on the lens, then carefully re-fit the rubber.

It's only lightly glued on to begin with as you'll see when you have removed it. Allow 24hrs for it to cure properly.

This glue is brilliant and I've used it for everything from lens repairs as described, re-glue-ing the rubber grips on camera bodies, fixing shoes (well, why not?) and re-attaching my old car's weather strips...

PS...other glues may do the trick, but this is the best after 30 years of trial and experimentation.
I won't use anything else on my cameras.

Whatever you do use - DON'T use superglue! The Cyanoacrylate does wierd things...

Thanks Rob, it's funny how after a few years of using this site you have a good guess who is going to know the answer to a question.

Any online retailers for that glue?

Darren, unfortunately it is just over a year old...

Oh well its going to be shoe goo then :)

That is a handy tip

and I used a dab of superglue to stick that annoying bit of rubber that always comes off on the thumb grip on my D50...:(....that was 2 weeks ago.....its not blown up yet....;)
