Safari for Mac not working

Hi all,

came onto my iMac this morning and Safari wont open, it just bounces in the dock and then doesnt respond. i have repaired the permissions and tried re-installing safari but stil doesnt work, so im using firefox now, but want all my booksmarks and safari back :'(

anyone know how to fix this?


Oh and i went into my admin account and safari does work perfectly.
 
ye i imported the bookmarks into firefox for just now.

i tried re-installing ti but didnt work.
the strange thing is when i go into my Admin account safari works, so i think it must be a profile error and not a software error. if you know what i mean.
 
where do i find this? i looked under the "show packages contents" but its not there :shrug:
 
found the preference file and deleted it, restarted mac, but still not working. Grrrr.
i emailed my mate and it sees since he done the update it has ketp crashing every 5 minutes.
 
right two options then, first download and re-install.
second look on apples forum for people having similar problems.
wait for the next upgrade (which sounds like it wont be long)
use from your admin account for now.
it really sounds like some sort of permissions thing if it works on admin.
the app should be on your immediate hard disk. (obvious !!)

thanks Pace, i will use Firefox for just now and search around and see if i can fiqure it out, if that fails then i will just have to wait till the next update.

Have you tried installing it to a different location?
Also, are you sure the window isn't off screen by some fluke, somewhere

thats a good point.

After you have clicked the icon and it has bounced, is the text next to the apple ( top left ), safari or finder?

If its safari, click file > new window, or just press APPLE+N
 
it doesnt stop bouncing, it just keeps bouncing until the not responding error comes up or if i force qui it, it bounces about 30 times.

strange.
 
I had this problem with the latest version of Safari. It is usually caused by a 3rd party plug in. Mine was Acidsearch. i removed it and Safari is fine now.
If you need a tool to make Google search UK sites only with Safari`s latest version, try Inquisitor

thanks, i havent added any third party apps lately, i have got inquisitor (maybe i should trry and remove this and reinstall?) but not sure how to remove it without getting into safari.
