I'm looking to add a wide angle o fish eye to my kit. Only wide angle I got at the moment is my Nikon 28.70 f2.8, Tamron 19-35 f3.5-4.5 AFD and Nikon 28mm f2.8 AI.

Not too sure is the samyung 14mm is worth getting.

The 14mm on d600 is the sharpest lens I've ever owned! Just a shame the filter kit is stupid! View attachment 37191

I know the 8mm and 14mm can produce very good optic. I know the 8mm is fish eye so it only does one thing, but I'm not sure can I justified getting the 14mm since I got a 19-35. Unless that 5mm different is huge on a full frame.

That 5mm difference is huge on FF!

Personally, I've gone for the Sigma 8mm f/4 fisheye and the Tamron 14mm f/2.8 UWA since both are fully automatic (AF and auto aperture). IIRC, the Samyangs are MF but the Nikon versions do allow the aperture to be controlled by the camera. DoF on both is massive so AF isn't that important! FWIW, the Tamron allegedly distorts less than the Samyang but I haven't got a Samyang so can't do a direct comparison.

The decision is whether you want, as per your first post, an Ultra Wide or fish eye!

If you want a UWA get the 14mm, if you want a fish eye, get the 8mm.

The 14mm on FF is epic.

I've got the samyung on 14mm on a canon 5d mk3. f8, focussed at 3 feet and just about everything is in focus.

I think I will go for the 14mm for practical reasons. It will get more use to behonest. 8mm fish eye is one of those that is fun to play around with or one off thing but it will end up collecting dust.

MF is not a real problem for me. When I was shooting on D300 and D7000 my nikon MF lens didn't get use. Now i'm shooting on a D3 and D700 those MF nikon lens is fantastic. I can nail focus spot end, thanks to the bright view finder. I love my nikon 28mm and 135mm AI f2.8.

I went out and bought a fisheye 4 years ago....... Sold it last month after using it about 5 times! Quirky but unless it's going to pay for itself what's the point.......
