Sandisk CF cards, difference between Ultra, Ultra II & Extreme

The speed that the camera can write and read to the card. 30 mbs/sec will be fine unless you want tod do a lot of video the consider 60 mbs

Can I ask why just Sandisk? I used to use them as was led to believe they were the best and most reliable, since then have done some homework and tried transcend and have never had a problem and save a decent amount of money :)

Can anyone help me, I need 2 either 4gb or 8gb cards for my 7D, I've narrowed it down to these,

Sandisk Ultra 30mb/s

I used sandisk ultra111 its got a wavey line between red and black... these ultra with straight lines (as link above) even though listed as 30mb are slower than the ultra III ...Now sorry i bought mine after originally reporting they where good.

I would like somehting as fast and as good as the original ultraIII

Ok so why is the Ultra II that writes 15mb/sec more expensive than the Ultra that writes 30mb/sec? Maybe I'm being dim here?

Sandisk re-branded their CF card line a couple of years ago.

The Ultra II is an older card than the Ultra.

The new Ultra is equivalent to the old Extreme III

Really... which Transcend do you use? I'm open to others, just like you were always led to believe Sandisk were the best...

I have 3x transcend 32gb 400x cf cards and never had a problem either in the camera (7d) or copying to the pc. I tend to use burst quite a bit when shooting birds of prey in flight and they've never had an issue.

The old Extreme our not the equivalent,of the new Ultra, the extreme pro are :)

I've got 2 16Gb Duracell 300x (30Mb/s) and 2 16Gb Duracell 600x (60Mb/s) and have used them extensively in the 7D, 5D2 and now the 5D3 and I've had no problems at all from any of them. They write to the computer at their stated speeds and for the price they are from www.7dayshop.com you can't really go wrong. I've not seen any threads on any of the 5 forums I frequent reporting any issues with these cards either and they come with a 10 year guarantee.

I'm not quite sure what you're saying, but what I wrote is correct.

The card currently sold as 'Ultra' is the same speed as the old 'Extreme III'

The current 'Extreme' and 'Extreme Pro' are faster.

It's not just a matter of speed, the old extreme III,we're of a better build, design for pro used :)
