Saving RAW files

I note that on page 85 of the November edition of Practical Photography there is some advice on which type of file to save. Under the section on RAW file it is stated that

“ RAW It’s not possible to save images as RAW files; these files are only created by the camera at the point of capture”

I find this hard to believe as I archive my image files either as Canon CR files or as Adobe DNG file ;)

I think what it means is that you can't change a file and then save it as a different RAW file. If you want to save any changes it will be as some other format. In other words the RAW file will always be as you took it.

"Changes" to raw files are either stored as part of a database (Lightroom, Capture One, etc), as a separate sidecar file such as XMP, or in a few cases in a special part of the raw file (Canon DPP)

Anyone else spotted or pointed out dod's mistake with his sig? I presume its intentional and we are being tested!
