SB900 Issue - Can Anyone Help? - Recycle Problem Maybe?

Hi all..

My Sb900 is behaving all strange...

I did an event shoot tonight and normally I could take 2 pictures within seconds of each other with 2 "flashes" as the flash would recycle... Now it seems that it's taking 3 to 4 seconds to recycle which means the second picture becomes completely dark?

When I test the flash out using the "flash test" button it will do multiple flashes, one after the other.. How it used to work?

Is there something wrong with me? Have I set something wrong?

Are the batteries definitely full? Have you done a full reset?

I thought it was the batteries, then replaced it with a fresh set of energizer, same thing..

Although I haven't done a full reset, didn't know you could do that on the sb900 flash gun?

I take it these are non-rechargeable batteries? If so are the new ones you've just fitted from the same paccket/batch as the set that first gave the "problem"?

What setting have you got the flash on?

Yup, I only use fresh batteries...

Settings are on TTL at -0.3ev. - Flash Overheat (turned off)

It just seems to baffle me that's all..

Try it on manual and see if it makes any difference, batterywise if they're all from the same batch they could well be duff, just because you've just bought them doesn't mean they are "new", they could have been sitting on a shelf for a year, slowly losing power.....
 
was it firing at full or near to full power, if it was then it does take longer to recharge.

This could be true - I normally buy them batches of 24 which is why it is confusing me as I tried Philips and Energizer, both new sets.

Again when I press the "test flash" button is seems to work perfectly fine. Can fire 2/3 within 2-3 seconds, no issue.

I presume when I am trying to photograph a room, the flash would need much more power on ttl than just shooting people that are less 1 metre from me?

You're not shooting on lower ISO than you normally would are you? In which case the flash will use higher output and will take longer to recharge. Hmmm now I think on, wasn't there some mention of an issue like this in the firmware upgrade for this flash?
 
With my Canon guns (580EX) when you press the test button the flash does not normally fire at full power. Yours could be the same.

It's prolly just putting out a fair bit of power. Put it on manual full power, and try the test button then. It'll take a few secs to recycle.
