I can see where you're going with these, unfortunately the backgrounds are a bit distracting in the first two. Have you tried selectively desaturating the backgrounds?

Matty, it's with a Canon 300d + sigma 70-300 @ 70mm

i would try taking a walk backward, slapping the lens up to 280 and F4.0, if you can turn macro on do that, hopefully that will through out the background
