I've just realised that I have a small scratch on the rear element of my 24-70mm F2.8L canon zoom. its fairly shallow and about 2-3mm long. Is this likely to have any affect on my photos? The scratch is to one side about 8mm from edge of lens.

First thing I'd ask is, do you notice anything wrong with your pictures? Have you pixel peeked to see if you can notice anything that doesnt look right?

I have not noticed any problems with photos but I am not that experienced at spotting such things.

I believe shooting wide means the focus will be on the object at that focal length, everything else in the shot is disregarded, blurred.

Thanks Steve!!!

Take pictures at wide open and then all the way down to the smallest and see if you can see any defects, problems may also show up at different shutterspeeds, there is no answer really for I am afreaid you will have to test yourself. I have heard people say that small marks on elements wont make a difference but I dont know that for a fact.

Thanks Steve!!!

It's fact, just had a look at the front and rear elements of my 24-70 and 70-200, what a state, but as I mostly shoot wide open, I have no problems.

The lens is "clean" otherwise so from what you are saying, I should not notice any particular problems in normal usage?

Correct, take a few sky shots at f/11 and you will find problems if they exist, easier to know where they are when in post.
