SCSI Printer Install?

Anyone got any experience of installing/using SCSI printers in Win 7?

A friend has a Canon BJ-w9000 (large format) and I'm trying to get it working, but no joy up to now. The SCSI card is detected and installed OK, and the printer is (sort of) recognised, but not to the extent that it shows in the printers list. No drivers or install guides are available for this on the Canon website. It does find it as a generic printer eight times in device manager though? The screenshots below might explain a bit more...

may just be quicker and easier to have a separate XP print server?

granted you still wouldnt be able to print direct and youd have to drop onto the XP box and then print from there.. but without drivers youre a bit stuffed

If it is showing as 8 printers what is the SCSI ID address set to? Is everything terminated etc correctly?

Which SCSI card is it? If it is Adaptec then do they still have the Adaptec utilities program on their site, this program will normally test the connection etc to make sure that all is working correctly.

Once you KNOW that there are no SCSI problems you can jump on the drivers and know that it is not a physical connection issue.

Maybe an XP VM could do it, although it's not something I've really looked at in a big way previously, so am not sure of hardware support in a VM?

Seems weird that a printer that probably cost around 20k isn't supported after XP?

... and I was about to say, I got a hold of another SCSI card today that I'll swap out tomorrow. Has to be worth a try - It's an Advansys card that's currently installed. Also hard to believe that Win 7 doesn't support these SCSI cards in any way, and it wasn't easy trying to find drivers for them either!

why would any manufacturer continue to write software for old kit when you can go out and buy a nice new one that is supported 100%?

Never thought of that.... apart from the fact that the new version is 25k... £245 each for the inkjet refills for it as well.... :D
