Im a big fan of sandisk extreme cards and have four 2gb extreme 2s......

Now, i have just upgraded from my d50 which held around 1k of photos in fine to a shiny new d90..... coupled with the fact that i love the flexibilty of shooting in RAW means that im getting less than 180 shots on a 2gb card.

So now im looking at 8gb SDHC Cards and cant decide on which gives the best speed+cost=me happy....

I dont really have £25 x2+ so £50ish to be splashing out on two matching Sandisk 8gb cards..... (i like matching SD cards - hence the 4 extreme 2's)

So what do use and recommend?

Tom, I'd recommend sticking with the Sandisk Extreme cards and opting for 4GB models (£10.99 delivered at Play.com). Losing 8GBs in the event of your card failing is catastrophic. Half that pain by using 4GB cards and use multiple cards as opposed to larger cards.

12GB will set you back £33 as opposed to the £50 for 16GB. For the peace of mind knowing you don't have all your photos on one card, do it that way.

I've got a couple of 8gb Transcend SDHC class 10's (they were on offer form mymemory.co.uk and were only a quid or too dearer than the 4gb's). Only 'drawback' is that it's not up to Sandisks 30mb/s (it's read 18 Mb/s & write 14 Mb/s) but I can't say i've noticed it .

As above though I do have a Sandisk 4gb card, and I try not to fill the 8gb cards up incase I lose data, the 8gb was worth the extra quid for using with HD video though.

I've only used CF cards, but would rec the Sandisk and personnally, I'd go down the 4GB route re above.

Have you looked at 7dayshop / Amazon / Play.com also worth a look as they sometimes have goos offers online are Dixons / PCW / Currys / Comet.

thanks all for the advice. I think im going to go with 4GB cards and get the fastest i can afford. Play.com seems quite reasonable and so does mymemory.com.

I remember when i bought my D50 five or six years back, i bought a 1GB card for over £50, and that was from a cheap internet seller.... How things have changed!!

Which sandisk 4g cards would your say are the best to get? I only have one card at the moment and i know i will get caught out if i fill it quickly

Sandisk Extreme are £10.99 at Play.com. I think that represents the best value-for-money on any storage at the moment.

Are they better than the Sandisk 4GB Extreme SD Card (SDHC) 30MB/s - Class 10 ones?

Sandisk 4GB Extreme SD Card (SDHC) 30MB/s - Class 10 are £18.99 so worth buying then?

yes, they are the better card, but are eight pounds more expensive.... so its your choice :)

I don't find any value in the extra 10mbps but you might. Most cameras won't write the images to the cards that quickly and it's negligible when you're putting photos onto your PC unless you're shifting hundreds at a time (and even then, I'm rarely in such a hurry that the extra 10mbps helps).

Hope that helps.

Great, thanks. Will order the 20mbp one then.
