SDHC Transfer Rate

Looking for an SDHC card for my new 650D. Is the transfer rate of 20MB/s on the Transend 32GB suitable, or should I be looking at a faster one?

650D maximum video bitrate is 5.5MB/s.

650D max image file size is RAW + JPEG at 29.9 MB, so it would take about 1.5 secs to write to card.

Video will be fine, pictures will be ok as well but it'l take a long time to clear the buffer if you are machine gunning and take a dozen+ shots in a row.
Also slower cards are a royal pain in the *** when transfering everything to pc, do you really want to wait an hour or more to transfer a full card across?

Thanks for the info guys. Can you tell me how many minutes of video would fit on a 16BG card?

About 48 mins on full HD but filesize is limited to 4GB so max 12 min shots on a DSLR, but realistically you never shoot a clip that long.

There's also an EU definition of Camera vs. Camcorder. A camera has a maximum video clip length. Otherwise the import duty would be higher.

I went with these Sandisk one in the end for stills and video (one in each slot). Not had any issues with them since May, shooting pretty much every day.

OP - you want to give yourself the most amount of headroom in terms of rwrite speed... 'Class 10' is supposed be a minimum benchmark level for high-speed apllication like video and fast fps shooting... something like guaranteeing a minimum write speed of 10MB/s (if you follow the ratings C2 = 2MB/s, C4 = 4MB/s....) although many C10 cards will be faster than this.

Some info here - https://www.sdcard.org/developers/overview/speed_class/
