Seagate external harddrive help

Ok, guys

Just received my Seagate harddrive. On the reviews it says it WILL and has been used on Macs. However, the packing says for Windows. :shrug:

So how do I format it so it will work on my Mac?

Don't worry it will work fine on the Mac. Any bundled software might be windows only but any usb ext drive will work on a Mac. Just re-format it if it is formatted NTFS (which is unlikely)

Oh missed the format question. Just run disc utility, select the dive in the left hand pane, in the right hand pane there is a tab to set the number of partitions, set format to FAT32 or "Macos extended (journaled)" etc. Select one for this and click on apply


Use FAT32 for any drive that you might wish to use to share info to a PC otherwise use extended.

Open up Disk Utility, select the hard drive and click on erase and select "mac os extended" in the format field. I've done this with 2 seagate hard drives.
