Sell Up and Buy???

Hi All
Among other things I have a
Canon 100mm macro f2.8
and a
Canon 70/200f4 L IS
which are gathering dust

I currently use a 40D, I am thinking about selling the lot and buying a 7D( the lenses
and 40D just about net the cost of a 7D)
That would leave me with a
Siggy 10/20
Siggy 30/f1.4
Canon24/105
Canon 100/400

Thoughts please?

Why do you want to upgrade from the 40d to the 7d may i ask?

Don't! The 7D is nice but without a lens on it the IQ is actually worse than a 40D with a lens!

A 40D can be worth ~£350 depending on actuations.

So that's £1200 you could raise towards the cost of a new 7D and maybe a spare battery or two. Of course if you go down the 2nd hand route you might be able to get away with just selling the two lenses and keep the 40D as a back up body.

Of course if the lenses are dusty they will be worth less

That would leave me with a
Siggy 10/20
Siggy 30/f1.4
Canon24/105
Canon 100/400

Thoughts please?

Well I have lenses I dont use and am not likely to,so I might as well sell them.BUT I dont have a need for the cash and I will only fritter it away on things like holidays and computer upgrades so I might as well upgrade my camera

I don't see the point have having loads of stuff you never use, its better to just have a few quality items that you can really get to grips with and make the most of.

Plus I wouldn't mind a canon macro, at mates rates of course.

Sort of in the same situation, thinking of selling my two 40D's and going for a 60D or maybe s/hand 7D, already have a wide angle, decent standard zoom and 400mm prime

Its either that or purchase a lens, coincidentally its one of the lenses you don't use
(70-200mm f4 IS)

Erring on the side of the lens and then perhaps upgrade the camera when the next round of new ones come out whenever that might be

How?
The higher pixel density means that at 100% it might look worse with a lens that isn't tack sharp, but at the same size, the 7D should not be worse.

The lens might not be able to resolve extra detail onto the sensor, but it can't be worse than on a lower resolution sensor.

I think he thought that all lenses were being sold so that the OP would have a spanking new 7D but no lenses left.

I also have had the same setup, sold the macro first and zoom later to fund my purchase of 85L II, which I sold again after a while. make sure you get the replacements for good price, then you can try out new lenses. I would not upgrade the body though, unless you are getting a used one cheap - bodies loose value so quickly!
Sigma 30/1.4 is great I had one for 1-2 years. I find zooms restrictively slow. that is why I sold the first two lenses years ago.

Except the OP said he would be left with a 10-20mm, 30 f/1.4, 24-105L and 100-400L.

7D with Siggy 10/20, Siggy 30/f1.4, Canon 24/105 and Canon 100/400 = a very nice set up.
