Gah, it seems I am doomed for failure with this camera!!

I had some very stubborn dust on the sensor so after reading the thread on here, I purchased 4 of the sealed sensor swabs (in the correct size!)

I've just gone through all four as each time I did it I ended up with a streak down the edge where I finished.

It seems to me this is because there is no room either side of the sensor, when you finish the wipe the wand is still on the edge of the sensor!!

Don't get me wrong, they work great is its removed all the crap in the middle, but I now just have the damn streak down one side!!!

Yep, sorry on the iPhone otherwise I'd provide a link!!

I'm giving the chap from justblack a ring later!

I can see how the swabs work very very well, I'm just struggling to work out the edges :-D

There could be some oil stains, which should be cleaned with the correct fluid first.

I do agree about the edges - they are pain to clean. In theory you are meant to go beyond the sensor, except there is almost no more space.

The alternative is 5D mkIII with fluorinated coatings (at £3k). mkii was not much better from what I've seen (the vibrator is next to useless)

i bought some cheap Opteka SSC-20 Pre-Moistened Sensor Cleaning Swabs From Amazon and i have never done this before so was really nervous. I did my 7D & 40D yesterday and now there brilliant clean, i used 2 swabs on each camera.

So chuffed with myself..........lol

Yeah they're great swabs it's the fact it's a FF which is causing me the issue!!

And no, a £3k 5d mkiii is not a sensible solution :-D

I'm surprised those Amazon ones seem to be one size fits all.

Nah, I love the 1d style and layout too much :-)

Sensor wipe wise, the size is spot on, it's the fact that there is no room at either end of the sensor that's killing me, anyway going to phone the shop and see what is what :-)

I just had a great chat with Peter at http://www.cameraclean.co.uk/index.php absolutly top chap and seriously great service!!

He said that the swabs I bought are great for an emergency but are really over saturated for general use!

he also said that the full frame sensors are VERY hard to clean for the exact same reason I have found.

He is sending me some swabs and fluid to have another go, and very kindly outlined the best process, but did admit its very very hard to get the final edge perfect!

I don't find my full frame 5dii anymore difficult to get to the edge than the 300D I had before.
I wonder if the type of swab/spatula makes any difference.

I use Cameraclean swabs. I had a demo of a very good fella at Focus a couple of years ago and when I did my 5d2 1st time it took 4 swabs, now just 2 does the trick. I've also done my 1d3 and 40d with no probs.

4WD I use the above comapnies Blue spatulas, as far as I'm concerned they are better than pecpads.
