Jumping right in at the deep end here.

I have a Canon 40D and 70-200L IS lens. Going to a club sprint at Curborough at the weekend, just looking to find what settings to start with.

Is was thinking.....

Tv (Shutter priority) and then work with shutter speeds.
AI Servo.
Centre point focus.

???

This is my first try with a DSLR at motorsport, what shutter speeds would you start with in fair weather and light?

I was at Silverstone the other weekend and was, on average, at around 1/125th. When the light dimmed I was 1/160 - 1/200 but also tried 1/20 which gave some interesting images

Try starting at 1/200 and if you are getting sharp pics then move down. If you can do it 1/80 gives very nice blur of the background.

Just looked at the dates and am guessing this is a bit late

Thanks for the reply, 1/125 - 1/160 was best. Got some very pleasing shots for my first try.
