Shakey lens mount

In my new d700, the older 170-500mm sigma lens has slight movement in the bracket of about a mm. Is it advisable to take to a local camera shop, how much do they charge to fix on average? And could they ever break it? Also need viewfinder opened and cleaned.

Hi. I doubt a local camera shop could fix it. It sounds like the Sigma mount is worn and may need a major service which only a Sigma agent will be able to do, probably.
You could try a local shop just for them to check it's nothing simple like loose screws, but ultimately, it is a proper repair shop job
The D700 will most likely need to go to Nikon for cleaning unless it's just dirt on the focus screen, which is easy to get off with a rocket blower and a specpen

Is it movement as in rotating in the socket? If so my friends 5Dmk2 does this with every lens, no idea why. It's very slight and only noticeable if you actually try and feel it, and has no effect on image, or use whatsoever so he's never bothered having it fixed.

My canon lenses do it in the 70d also nothing to worry about

It just means in a tripod the frame can move.
The dirt is in the viewfinder glass.
