Wasps? They were hovering/landing around holes in the ground...

Nice set Ash mate! I think your "wasps" are miner bees:thinking:

The 'wasps' are mining bees, the first is an Andrena sp., can't say a species for that one.
Second looks like Andrena cineraria.

The one labelled 'bee' is Andrena fulva (a.k.a the tawny mining bee).

Lovely shots :)

Like the wasps. :)
Can't wait until i get my hands on a decent macro lens.

Love the sense of scale on the last shot, I think the wasps are bees if you know what I mean - nice mixed set.

Thanks! And yes, just seen the other replies...

Awesome, thank you! They were near holes in the ground... I assume that's where the "mining" bit comes from?

Looks like the milk bottles doing the business - Good clear and colourful set

It is! Thanks!

Again thank you :) It's a lovely lens.

WOW!

Ingenious and FREE - I'll have to try that!

A set of Kenko DG AF extension tubes and your kit lens or a Canon 50mm f1.8 lens make a very good macro combo - buy them on here and get them even cheaper.

Some results with the 50mm and extension tubes:

or a simple set of close up lenses (+1,2,4 and 10 Dioptres) off ebay fitted to your kit lens can also give a good starting point for about £10.00!
