Shutter actuations . . .

A used D90, 12 months old, said to be mostly used for video, the owner cant or wont . . . supply me with the number of shutter actuation's . . . How does the video function affect the number of shutter actions, does it have a machine gun effect? I have the suspicion its seen a fair bit of action, 3 batteries, car charger . . . despite being clean . . . ?

(or he could send you the file)

That'll tell you the shutter count. Get him to take a picture of today's paper, or the BBC webpage front to make sure he doesn't send you an old photo.

Video only opens the shutter once and closes it once per take. If it had the machine gun effect, you'd hear the mirror slapping around 60 times a second!
