:help: I am trying to get some photos of Bees, think i need to change my shutter speed , can you tell me what would be the best shutter speed to use, Thanks .:)
I am very slowly learning to use my camera.:bang:

As fast as possible, they are fast blighters. I cant give you an exact number, as it depends on the amount of light you have avaliable, but I would think 1/500 would be the minimum to be looking at.

Flash would be the best bet though I expect.

Thanks for your quick reply , Will give that a try tomorrow .:) (If it doesnt rain).

Hi

just had a quick read of your cam manual, your flash sync is 1/180 sec. so set you camera on Set the shooting mode to M, (Manual) and F14, ISO 100, 1/180 sec, youll get sharp shots every time as your flash will freeze it  Cracked it, then try flash minus or plus compensation to adjust to the ambient conditions

For got to say ISO will give a dark background so up your ISO to lighten it ie

100 darkish
200 lighter
400 lighter still

The higher the more the flash will spread

Try it now on anything, see what you come up with post some shots, then we can help further  keep the main settings the same just adjust the ISO

Right i will try that , then post the results , and run for cover .
Thanks .

I see your camera goes up to 1/4000 sec so the faster the speed the more the bee will be frame frozen. Of course this depends on how bright the day is so there is no hard and fast rules about camera settings and shutter speeds. The higher the ISO settings the more "noise" (interference) will appear in the picture. So you have to balance shutter speed with ISO and the aperture settings come into play as well just to confuse you more.

Although others have given their advice its really trial and error and practice that wins in the end.

If you don't edit your photos first you can download free something like Kuso Exif viewer which will show you your camera settings and then you can decide which camera settings work out best
I have tried taking photos of bees and failed dismally so know what your taking on.

I appreciate you only gave information on using flash, I was only adding to what you posted so to speak not criticising in any way.
