I was going to say that Sigma should really buck up on the QC of this lens coming out of it's factories because, as you have seen, a good copy is a really excellent lens.
Even with the new ART lenses on the scene, these are still being produced new. However, there are still reports of bad copies shipped out, from recent individual reviews, which is a shame
The shallow depth of field on your camera images are excellent, and very appealing to the eye
I'm sure that there are bad copies and Sigma may be on average worse than Canon or Nikon as they have to back engineer the focus systems but... I think it's worth taking some reports with a large pinch of salt. For example aside from the 50mm "issue" I posted above I had a Sigma 30mm f1.4 and it was fawless until I sold it and the new owner immediately posted example pictures and the focus was all over the place... I offered a full refund but he said it was probably his technique and he was going to carry on and I never heard any more.
The thing with wide aperture lenses is that they can expose poor technique and bad practice such as focus and recompose, nodding backwards or forwards whilst shooting and choosing your target poorly.
Personally I've never given too much weight to user reports of focus issues unless I have some knowledge of the user or some confidence in them and I've had no issues with any of the wide aperture Sigma lenses I've owed or indeed with any of their not so fast lenses. There are decent blogs and believable reliability reports out there, for example Lens Rentals have posted such more than once but posts from strangers on a public forum, I personally tend to take with a pinch of salt unless there's a reason to give their view some weight.
