Is the Sigma 10 - 20 HSM Lens a good lens for my canon 40D

Regards
Andrew

It is a good lens but IMO not the best in it's class.

What would you suggest then please

I have one for my 30D and I'm very happy with it, some great pictures with it already.

Sure the Canon 10-22 is probably a better lens, but it's down to you whether the extra £250 is 'worth it'. Wasn't for me :)

The canon is a EFS lens is it? I am not too sure if the Sigma would fit a Full frame like a 5D if I ever upgrade? If not then I prob will look into the canon

Don't think the Canon will even fit a 5D, whereas the Sigma will, but vignette badly.

10mm is too wide for a full-frame sensor.

The options are:

Canon 10-22mm EF-S
Sigma 10-20mm EX
Tokina 12-24mm F4 ATX
Tamron 10-24mm
Tokina 11-16mm F2.8

When I was choosing my lens I had the Canon 10-22 for a while, tried the Sigma and settled on the Tokina. My reasons were it was the best built lens of the three, marginally sharper than the competition when wide open (All were equal stopped down to F8 in a mid oom position) and a good price.

The Tamron offering did not exist when I purchased nor did the Tokina 11-16 (Which I may have chosen instead...).
