Sigma 150-500 - What next?

As this lens seems to be permanently attached to my 60D, I was wondering what I would have to upgrade to for any real improvement when taking bird images.

Need not be a zoom, as I hardly use it at less than 400mm.

Cannot spend silly money, could sell/trade in the Sigma and also a rarely used Canon 100mmL macro. Could add another £1000, so around £2000 in total.

I recently changed from the 150-500 to the New Sigma 120-300 f2.8 OS which with a 2X givess you 600mm f5.6 and great IQ. The only drawback is it's a lot heavier than the 150-500, but that's the price you pay for f2.8

I got a 150-500 OS in january and after taking a short while to get used to it I now find it's one of my most used lenses. As for an upgrade to get better IQ and performance, even with a budget of £2000, there's not really a lot of options with a 400mm or above.

As Ken has already said, the Sigma 120-300 2.8 and a 2x TC might be your best bet. The Canon 300 2.8 L prime is in excess of £3000, a Canon 300f4 L and 1.4x TC wont give you the reach, nor will the Canon 400 5.6 L although they might give you a bit better IQ.
