Sigma 150mm issue...help anyone?

I've got a Sigma APO MACRO 150mm F2.8 EX DG HSM (Canon) lens which was bought on the 01-Sept-09.

The issue is that the barrel seems to be coming away from the lens mounting area. See image here

Can I return it to Sigma? The shop I bought it from no longer exists it seems. I've got the order confirmation etc of when I bought it though.
 
i had one for many years and this never happened to mine. They are meant tobe fairly robust lenses.
 
Did you register it with sigma?

Either way I'd give them a call/email as they have fairly reasonable set servicing fees either way.
 
Not sure if I ever filled out the register card - was bought brand new though. I'll give them a call.. surely it should still be in warranty? Or at the very least still "fit for purpose"
 
3 year warranty on EX lenses - score! posting it off tomorrow and hopefully will get it fixed
 
well.. they said if it didn't look like it had been dropped (it hasn't) they'll try to repair // replace it. Just got to find the box it came in now! Got my proof of purchase from the retailer though so that's good. Also -- +1 for their phone guys, a couple of rings to main desk, then about 10s of hold before onto their tech people to ask.. very good support.

Thanks for posting back with that. I've been considering getting a Sigma lens, and value support. Been burned before, so...
 
when i sent one of my old lens through there turnaround and help was really good. Wish i never had to call them in the first place but its nice to know if you have to things get sorted quickly.
 
aye :) lens is now in the post to them with the invoice and the like. A small description is needed to say what happened and I said it just opened on its own. The lens hasn't been dropped so I'm some what upset that an 18month old lens has fallen apart :(.

On the plus side.. I can hope that they send me back the EX DG OS version ;)

:nono: Not in a month of Sundays whilst they still have the normal EX DG HSM :razz:...

Would be a shame if they sent you a Sigma 105mm macro by mistake thou - :thinking: so I just hope you put the digits in the right way round :p :lol:
 
bah :P you killed my hopes. I've got a 100mm F2.8 IS L Canon on my "to buy" list so maybe it's no bad thing that they will prob send me back a non OS one..
 
oh and.. yea it would be a huge shame if they sent me their 105mm instead of the 150. Would prob be lighter though!
 
Are the OS versions readily available then :shrug: as I only know of Park Cameras to be the ones that are "selling" them (well have them listed) at the moment - thats if they actually have them that is as it seems no-one else has at the mo....
 
oh I thought they were already out to buy. Has there been a review anywhere of them yet? Would be interested to see how their OS fairs against the Canon 100mm IS

Parks seem to have dropped their prices down as amsure when I 1st looked they were around the £1k mark & IIRC the last time I looked they were about £840ish....

Cant be asked to see the price now - not till they're officially released to more than one seller.......
 
the 105mm is more of a competitor to the Canon 100mm

the 150mm OS is more of competition to the Canon 180mm - you lose a bit of length but gain OS
 
So... found out how it had broken after a call to Sigma. It appears that the internal screws have all sheered :/ - the guy said it was due to a high level impact to the rear of the lens (at the canon mount ring) - No idea how that could have happened! I keep all my kit in a Tamrac Camera bag and treat it with care.

Just want to say again that the sigma support has been second to none. When I called today I was put through to repairs and the guy actually went and picked up my lens to talk me through the damage. Was somewhat surprised by how awesome that was.


Re bag stuff.. I keep all the lenses in the Tamrac bag, However, only my 70-200 F2.8 IS L goes vertically in the bag (running from base of bag upwards) the other lenses go in so that they go from back to front - usually with the canon mount rings facing into my back.. is this a sane way to carry lenses or should they all be vertical in the bag?
