Hello. Anyone out there bought one of these yet or have any comments? I just bought a Canon 450d for my wife and would like to get her a decent (but not ridiculously expensive) zoom lens with image stabilising. I have always used Sigma lenses myself, but on film cameras, and always found them to be excellent, but I am new to this digital malarkey. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Personally I think it's a great lens. The focal range is really useful and was pretty much always on my 400D. Nearly all of my shots on flickr were taken with this lens, so feel free to have a nosey if it helps :) My only minor complaint with this lens is that the focus ring moves with AF so you just have to watch where you grip the lens, but you get used to it real quick.

Ok, thanks for the reply. I could be interested in buying yours but I will wait for a bit more feedack as I have to assume you are slightly biased - on the basis you are selling the lens...:) Many thanks for now.

I had the non OS version when I first started out with DSLRS.

Most who start out aren't fully settled on genres to shoot, so found the range very useful for all kind of things; landscapes, portraits, buildings, wildlife etc. etc.

At this kind of zoom range, the lens is likely to be jack of all but master of none and this is exactly that...this and the non OS version are not optically perfect, reasonably sharp but suffer from distortions at that price range.

At the end of the day, it is a versatile piece of glass and ideal for experimenting with image styles and genres, before deciding what to shoot and buying more specialist lenses.

A very useful thing is that at this zoom range, it is unlikely to be swapped over for another lens, so in doing so, helping to avoid dust and dirt bunnies reaching the sensor :puke:

Hope this helps :)

i use this lens quite alot as it's apature is non-too dissimilar to the kit lens and focal range is far beyond the standard 18-55mm.(y)
