I have been holding out for the canon 180mm macro for about a year, until yesterday.
when I managed to come across a Sigma 180mm macro for what appears to be a snip at £350.
Does anybody have experiences with both lenses, and will I regret not holding out for the canon?

Don't know about the Sigma 180, but their 150 2.8 is a ctacking lens.

Again don't have the 180mm but do have the 150/2.8. Was looking at the Canon but couldn't shoulder the bill for the Canon 180mm for the amount of macro I do. The Sigma is sharp but I don't think the AF is quite a blistering as the Canon version.

This was taken with Sigma 150mm

Yep, Sigma are pretty good at macro lenses. I too have the 150 and it is a superb lens. IMO it is probably a better lens to own than the 180 unless you really need the working distance 180mm offers.

I've got the Canon 180L and the Sigma 150 (after trying a Sigma 180). The Sigma 180 is very close to the 180L but not quite there....just as sharp but loses out in the bokeh stakes. The Sigma 150 is really the jewel in the crown....the only non-Canon lens I own. I got it simply to have a try but it's too go to let go. It doubles as a very respectable medium telephoto and that's something the 180L doesn't do very well. Unless the extra few centimetres working distance is important to you then I'll endorse the others who've recommended the Sigma 150.
