This mega-monster of a lens is the most expensive DSLR lens currently available, with a suggested retail price of £25,000 and a street price of around £19,500! (Canon used to do a 1200mm lens with a price of £90,000 but this is now out of production.)

Does anyone know what such beast would be used for? I’d be interested to know.

the MOD have bought 15... should give you a good idea of what it could be used for :P

I'd imagine AP etc will have a few in their central store to be shipped out for big events for that 'special' shot.

Pro photo football, motorsport, sport or wildlife. At a guess

Yeah, it would be a doddle carrying that up hills and over Dales.........:D

If this is the green submarine, I remember talking about it on another forum, about the fact that it could be easily handheld

On a serious note, we were surprised that Sigma didn't include a trolley with it, as they seemed to infer that it was suitable for wildlife :cuckoo:

It is a bit of a beast, I have seen it up at Focus, I suspect that it was designed for the MOD but a zoom lens with that range and at f2.8 will of course find other uses, at nearly 16Kg (?) it may not be hand holdable or a lens for walkabout wildlife work but put it on a tripod on a vehicle on safari and you will probably not have a more versatile lens.
