How does it compare to the 24-70 2.8?

I remember researching this lens a while back and it seemed to come out on top of the 24-70 version. I found that a bit strange as the extra 10mm would've come in handy but my findings concluded it was marginally better optically I almost bought it, at this price I would've definitely.
