Just got this lens and WOW. Makes the Nikon design look so cheap and dated. Work of art !
 
It is a very nicely put together lens indeed. I really must get to using mine more, been lazy about it lately. You got a good copy straight off then? good to hear.
 
I done various tests on the D700 and D800, needed +6 on the 700 and +15 on the 800 have to get out and test it properly, used the dot tune method for the tests. It's insanely sharp at 1.4

May send my D800 in for Nikon to see if the AF needs calibrated. Don't have any left side problem just needed to tune a few for front focusing
 
In fairness in actual shooting I see very little difference in AF adjust apart from shooting a test chart.

Was speaking to a guy earlier Richard Watson, tremendous tog and he tunes his canon 35 to minus 20 and his 50 1.2 need + and - for different distances! I'll reserve my judgement on the AF until I give it some real world use! Looking promising so far tho

The first copy of it I received wasn't even cutting it at +20! Had to go back at that really. The one I got in return seemed fine straight out the box, to my eyes. Then I tried the method someone posted on here, the green dot in VF/live view manual focus method - and that suggested I should dial in +13 on it, which I have done, and it seems spot on! Either my eyes are going wonky! or the difference is so slight you can only tell at extremes.
 
I'm just glad I was able to tune it perfect. It's a lovely piece of glass. Very Zeiss esque. Can't wait to get out shooting with it
 
Nothing beats being happy with a new lens.

I've a new bag on the way, and getting the bike fixed up this week hopefully - gotta stop being so lazy and get out there and shoot again. My 35 needs a good and proper work out an' all ;)
 
Had a wee look at Tony's 35 this morning. Lovely bit of glass and sharp as you like.
