It's a good lens. But you might find it a but heavy if you're planning on using it hand-held.

I have one of the earler sigmas the 150-500 mm lens, built like a tank and great IQ just very heavy

A great lens for what you want it for. I've used the 50-500, and the 150-500 before it, for wildlife around the world without any issues other than it's a little heavy, but you (eventually!) get used to it.

I have the 50-500mm OS in both Canon and Pentax mount, it's an excellent lens but is best used in good light and if shooting @ 500mm at least f8.
It's quite weighty but I use mine at airshows hand held with no real problems ... just use a black rapid strap or similar so when you aren't using it then it can just hang at the side. It also focuses quite close so can be used as a quasi macro lens if needed.

Taken on the Canon 7D (500mm, wide open, hand held, 1/125th)

Taken on the Pentax K-5II
