Sigma 500mm F4.5 APO DG HSM

HI I have this lens which I bought new in late 2012. I have it attached mostly to my 7D. I have found it works well and is very sharp. I have found that I need a little addition in post processing of contrast. I use iPhoto. As you are aware there is no OS on this model however as mine spends 90%+ on the tripod. I have on occasion used it hand held and I tend to do this on sunny days at 1000th +. I prefer to buy new and with the recent canon 500mk2 being in excess of £7000 it's a bargain. I have tried the sigma 1.4 extender but much prefer the kenko pro 300.
Regards mike

Thanks Mike, appreciate the response - OS would not be an issue for me as I would not be using it handheld :)
Do you notice much loss in image quality with the kenko pro 300 added?

I had one, used it on my Nikon D300 ... , not sharp until you got to f7.1, poor wide open, shame as it is a nice compact lens (for 500mm), I ended up trading it for a 200-400.

I could not get it to AF with a 1.4TC on it either.

Had one many years ago on a D300. It's compact (for a 500mm) and reasonably sharp in the centre or stopped down. The bokeh is not great and cannot AF with TC.

I use the kenko pro 300. Which allows a/f ok with my 7d when using the kenko I have noticed its very good but not superb for IQ. Not sure where you are I am in Hampshire if you would like to try it.
Regards. Mike

Very kind Mike, thank you - I'm a few miles away from you but maybe :)
