Sigma 70-300 DG lens problem

Hi All, Just wondered if anyone may have some advice regarding a focus issue with this lens? I have an old Canon 350D and the kit lens (18-55 not IS) is fine getting shots sharp and in focus, but for some reason I cannot get proper sharp images with the Sigma DG 70-300 lens.The lens is not IS and the images it produces always seem only very slightly out of focus.

Just wondered if anyone could give any advice.

Its a cheapish lens, and at the long end is notoriusly not very sharp on some copies. Thats what you get with a cheap long zoom sadly.
Added to this sigma's reputation for QC and some lenses not being optically perfect you may have a recipie for disaster.
Post up a few shots with the exif intact and we can see if its you, the lens or both.

Do you have any examples with exif data? Does this happen at all focal lengths? This lens is not very sharp from 200mm onwards.

At 300mm x 1.6 crop factor (I'm assuming), without IS, you need a very fast shutter speed to eliminate shake.

It seems to happen whenever I use the lens i.e. at all focal lengths but like you say it could be shake?

Agreed it is a cheap lens and i'm currently saving up to buy a newer secondhand camera (been looking at Canon 50d's) and some decent glass. I am new to the forum and have just been reading how to upload the images to the Galleries but still having trouble. Will figure it out then post some images. Cheers for the reply.
