Just wondering what you guys would say is the best aperture to use on the lens to get the sharpest images. Should i also stay away from going maximum and widest to get the best images?

I am going to the French Car Show this Sunday and would like to know what settings to stay between to get the best images possible.

Thanks
Matt

Invariably it'll be at its best between f8 and 11, like most other lens. Never had one myself but as a general rule of thumb, stopped down to between these values will render maximum sharpness

Thank you, this may be why most of my images are coming out fairly soft as i am using f/5.6 or something.

Ill give that a go at the weekend for car shots and i might even do multiple shots through the aperture range to test it lol.

It should be reasonably sharp at 5.6.

Is your shutter speed fast enough? If not, you may need to increase the ISO, because 5.6 IIRC is wide open on your lens

Even though I have just got a Canon 70-200 L f/4 could this theory be applied to my old 47-300 USM III lens?
