Sigma Art calibration

Having spent an hour calibrating my 35mm Art with my D700, does that now require me to do the same process again with my D750?
By calibration that means via the USB dock rather than via micro AF in the body.

No it should negate the need for it though give it a quick test and u should be able to see if its all good or not pretty quick. Try close and distant shots. I find dot tune to be quite good for tuning lenses
 
Will give it a go this afternoon. Did try dottune method and another one-forgot it's name.
With the sigma dock and adjustment software, you cal at 0.3,0.4,0.6 metres and infinity. I tend to take tests shots and adjust by eye. Worked well on the d700.
 
Have just re-cal'd the 35mm Art 1.4 when on the D750. A minor tweak at 0.3M and another at 0.6M. 0.4 was fine as it was. Nothing major, which is just as well.

It's a while since I sold all my DSLR kit and none of it had the ability to be adjusted but... from the outside looking in I'd have thought that lenses will need calibrating with each body as bodies will vary (if your lens is perfect your body may not be...) and indeed this seems confirmed in reviews. For example...

"You may still have to calibrate the body as well to account for variance between different bodies with the same lens,..."

As above, i fine-tuned 2 lenses over the christmas holidays. 2 D700s, 1x Nikon 85mm 1.4 and 1x Sigma 35mm 1.4. The 85mm was perfect on both bodies, no adjustment needed whatsoever. The Sigma was a little more eratic, one body required +3 and the other +15, wish i'd read into it more before baffling myself at the time :lol:

The sigma software and dock allow cal at a number of distances on the 35mm. So you can fine tune at 4 places. ( I assume it averages those values at intermediate distances)
Obviously with micro adjust AF on the body, you are checking at one distance and hoping this adjustment does not adversely affect the other distances.
For added complexity, a sigma zoom such as the dx 17-70 allows four distance cals at four zoom lengths!
 
Maybe the answer is to do your best and to then be happy with whole images as I'd imagine that a number of minor focus issues will only be visible when looking very closely.

Just looked at the 120-300 f2.8 and to test it at infinity the chart will need to be over 30m away!
 
I didn't realise Sigma now let their customers do their factory work for them as well as selling their factory kit...hmmm....
