Sigma Ceramic glass filter.

Saw them released look good I won't be upgrading until I break my others or u less I buy another lens then might grab one to see if they are any good
 
I don't have any protective filters on any of my lenses, but was thinking of getting a couple to try.
 
If you can afford the price - yes. Even a cheaper multicoated filter will save dust coming in and any smaller scratches. Lens hood should be the main thing that prevents any big impact in the first place. The main issue should be the optical properties, particularly for telephoto lenses. Wideangles can tolerate even utter trash like plastic uncoated grads.

I agree with the lens hood, I always use one, more for protection than anything else !
I might order a couple for my more expensive lenses, that way I can justify the price !!
They seem to be very scratch resistant, water repellent, and very tough.
I'll post when I get them.
