Sigma DC 18-200 Faulty (help)

I have just tried to use my old Sigma lens which has been on the shelf for a very long time. I have tried to take some shots with it but it seems to struggle to focus in Manual or Auto.
In Auto it will only focus at max zoom and not when wide open and similar in manual.

I want to start to use this lens more as its a good compact all round lens, just need to get it to work first.
Is this something I can repair myself or does this need to go back to sigma??

If it is a Sigma DC lens then it won't work on the 5D. DC is for crop cameras only.

I have swapped my 5d for a 50d so it is fitted to the 50d, sorry I should have said that in the first post.

It was because of the 5d giving a big halo that it has sat on the shelf for so long.

Any other ideas.
