My 30mm f1.4 Sigma prime lens just arrived, now I cant seem to fit the lens hood. It's not that I'm not used to the petal design, I've a few lenses with that fit, it just will not fit, it seems too big for the lens...

Just checking I'm not doing anything drastically wrong since its my first Sigma lens, before getting on the phone to sort this out with a replacement.
 
Have you looked to see what lens hood is specified for that particular lens, and that it corresponds with what you have?

I tried, but the hood has no serial, no model number, nothing but the Sigma logo, a few white dots, the in/out arrows, thats it. Bizarre.

I'd love to but unfortunately my local camera shop is Jessops, which stocks very little in the way of decent kit. And for 30 miles in each direction, nothing but other jessops :(
 
It took me an age to figure out how to get the Canon 70-200 lens hood to fit. I just wasnt used to the different design. I've had that Sigma lens and never had a problem with it.
Sounds odd.
 
It's not the one pictured no, I rang them up and they told me to return the hood and they will send out another. It's definitely the wrong one as that one pictured, the height differences between the tall and short petals on the hood, are much smaller and less dramatic than mine. Mine are very prominent, I think it's for a 70-200 f2.8 Sigma, as it's a much larger barrel size too.

oh well :(
