Hi, can anyone tell me what the rough size is of the video files generated by the 5D MK II, either per minute or per 5 mins etc.. and if the output file is a Canon proprietary format or something more generic.

Thanks!

.... awaits answer with interest ..... great q!

Files are .MOV using the h.264 codec and are about 5mb per second.

Spot on, just looked, a couple of examples

A 9 seconds long video is 50mb
A 19 seconds long video is 103mb
A 43 seconds long video is 215mb.

So, yup, average 5mb per second.

*gulp* im off to find myself an 18gb memory card in order to film a 60m video!

on a serious note, does it need those super fast fancy cost-an-arm-and-a-leg CF cards, in order to film in HD? I remember my Lumix FZ28 used whinge about having a slow SD.

I didn't have any problem with the 30mb/s Sandisk Extreme IIIs, get the 8G cards, they are the best bang for bucks, I have 5 of them !

so about 25mins of video on each card. how much did it set you back? about £160+?
