Am thinking abput switching to Sky phone and broadband as it comes out cheaper then my current BT+o2 package.

I wanted to get landline from o2 but then I wont be able to keep mine unlimited download package ( silly from them :( )

So other cheaper option is sky.

I had sky few years back but dont remember how it was.

Are they ok as ISP ?
thanks

No problems here with them, although the modem they supplied only lasted until it was just out of warranty then packed in and you (seemingly) can't just replace it with another one, you need to buy the replacement from Sky as they are linked to your account....

thats strange and not nice form them is it ....
as I remember, they used to use netgear routers and my old one was cleared from their software and given away ;)

IIRC it wasn't all that expensive, just annoying as it meant being without internet access for a few days until they posted out the new one. Can't fault the service itself though and I'm on the free 2mb package (the only one available here :bang:)

I have the full sky package, Sky TV, Broadband, Phone blahdy blah, makes it easier that its all under one bill and have only ever had one issue with their broadband when their DNS servers went down, otherwise im very happy with it, I went with the full broadband unlimited and the Sky Talk unlimited which gives me free UK Calls 24/7 and free calls to lots of EU countries (Handy as mother in law lives in Spain) I dont live in the middle of a town so my broadband isnt anywhere near the upto 20mb advertised, I get 7mb download but its never been an issue

WE've been with Sky for quite a while now for Phone, Broadband and TV.

At first I was pretty sceptical about moving over, but the service has been on the while very good. I get about 16MB download against the quoted 20MB speed. I am aware of some slow down in service around teatime but I guess that's to be expected.

It's also unlimited, something a lot of others don't appear to be - I've checked, and I can't get my phone and Broadband anywhere near what I pay Sky for :)

As someone else commented, you are stuck with their routers, I had a problem with one earlier this year, and it was a PITA - it only took them 3 days to get a new one to me, but no internet for 3 days was an issue. There are supposed to be ways round it using an alternative router, but I couldn't get any of them to work.

Been using Sky broadband and Sky talk package for some time now and never encountered any problems. Remember if you just take Sky Talk with your package you might still be liable to pay BT line rental, unless you inform Sky that you want them to take over the line rental...Sky line rental is cheaper than BT anyway.

what kind of downloads speed do you get guys ?
do they throttle it down during peak ?

they do not throttle the unlimited. ever. which is annoying as my line only supports 2mb.

as a company i havent had a problem with them. always pretty handy on the phone/email.

the routers are d-link's these days. you can clone the MAC onto some other specific routers to use those instead if youre that way inclined but ive had no bother in 11 months.

only thing to watch is lead time on the phone line, we had no BT line when we moved in and they cannot start the ADSL order until the phone line is active. we were without internet for about 3 weeks so best to check with them on that.

We've had Sky TV for quite a number of years and then a few years ago went with their unlimited broadband and now phone. Absolutely no problems. When I did have an issue connecting with a new laptop they couldn't have been more helpful unlike the freeserve/wanadoo/orange outfit whose customer service had a LOT to be desired.

We have active line now so maybe there will be no problems.
I want to make sure all is ok with Sky as o2 is really good as well:)
